From race tracks to reactors, hydrogen is being proven in the most demanding applications imaginable. Hi, I'm Steve Hill, CEO of NewHydrogen, with this week's top hydrogen news. First, an important update from NewHydrogen. Our collaboration partner, NuCube Energy, has had a big few weeks. The United States Department of Energy awarded New Cube a fiscal year 2026 GAIN voucher to work alongside Argonne National Laboratory. GAIN stands for Gateway for Accelerated Innovation in Nuclear.

This project will use a digital twin of New Cube's micro reactor to validate autonomous setup, remote monitoring, and predictive maintenance systems. In plain English, the DOE is putting federal resources behind the exact reactor technology we're pairing with Thermoloop. On top of that, New Cube and Idaho State University were selected for DOE's National Energy Launchpad USA. One of the nation's most competitive fast-track programs for advanced nuclear deployment.

The plan is to site New Cube's ART reactor on the ISU campus in Pocatello, creating a testing platform for operator training and commercialization of next-generation nuclear systems. New Cube also opened a new office in Phoenix, positioning itself as one of the fastest-growing energy markets in the country. All of this validates what we've been saying. The heat source we're counting on isn't a concept. It's a technology the DOE is actively backing and accelerating towards deployment.

Next, a milestone that changes what's possible for commercial aviation. Rolls-Royce and easyJet have completed a world-first hydrogen aviation test, running a modified Pearl 15 jet engine on 100% hydrogen at full takeoff power.

The test took place at NASA's Stennis Space Center in Mississippi, and it wasn't just a quick burst at low throttle. Engineers put the engine through a fully simulated flight cycle. Start up, take off, cruise and landing.

All of it on hydrogen, all of it at real world power levels. This is the kind of engine that powers narrow-body commercial aircraft, the workhorses of global aviation. It's the result of a four-year program between Rolls-Royce, EasyJet, and several partners building on the earlier tests in the UK in 2022 and in Germany in 2023. Aviation represents roughly 2% of global carbon emissions and is one of the hardest sectors to decarbonize.

Batteries don't have the energy density for long-haul flight. Sustainable aviation fuels need help, but they don't eliminate emissions. Hydrogen is one of the few paths to truly zero-emission commercial flight, and this test proves that the engine side of the equation can work. What's still needed is the fuel side and at a cost that makes it viable at scale. Finally, hydrogen is making its mark on competitive motorsport in a way that's hard to ignore.

The FIA has officially confirmed the second FIA Extreme H World Cup returning to Saudi Arabia from October 29th through the 31st. If you haven't followed Extreme H, here's the quick version. It's the world's first and only hydrogen-powered motorsport World Cup run by the FIA, the same governing body that oversees Formula 1. The cars are called the Pioneer 25. They produce 550 horsepower, run entirely on hydrogen fuel cells, and race in brutal off-road conditions where reliability really gets tested.

The first-ever event ran in 2025 and was a proof-of-concept. This second edition is where it starts to become a fixture, and starting this season, manufacturers can install their own fuel cell systems in the race chassis, which means the world's top automakers can now use Extreme H as a live testing ground for hydrogen technology under real racing conditions. And that's significant. Motorsports has always been and of the fastest paths from prototype to production. When manufacturers start competing in hydrogen racing with their own hardware, the pace of development accelerates in ways that lab testing alone can't match.

From a DOE backed microreactor to a hydrogen jet engine at full power to the world's only hydrogen racing championship, the demand side of this equation keeps growing. But all of these applications share one thing. They need hydrogen that's cheap enough to scale. Aviation, motorsport, power generation, none of it reaches its potential if the fuel costs too much to produce.
